STANLEY PARK PROJECT < PREVIOUS PAGE
The Vancouver Board of Parks, in partnership with the Vancouver Aquarium, hired Matcon to construct a salmon stream habitat within Stanley Park. Both the salt and fresh water streams were shaped and graded to accommodate the placement of fish grade liners, rocks, cobbles and granite used to create the final mud banks and weirs designed for chum salmon.
The lookout deck was built around existing trees and incorporates the natural vegetation while adding natural plants, trees and grasses. The goal was to enhance the setting and recreate a natural stream.
The project perimeter was blended into the rest of the park and access for public viewing and maintenance personnel established. Site interpretive signs were placed along the salmon path to inform the public about coastal streams in the heart of the city.
Matcon received the VRCA Awards of Excellence 2001 General Contractor Award in the category of project under $10 Million.
