THE ENVIRONMENT
Matcon and Environmental Sustainability - a long term commitment.

At Matcon, we are proud to be industry leaders in environmental rehabilitation, reclamation and protection.
From its inception in 1973, the creation of The Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) has become one of British Columbia's great planning success stories and is admired in many parts of the world. The U.S.-based Northwest Environment Watch celebrated the ALR in claiming it was responsible for Vancouver's ability to avoid much of the urban sprawl that plagues Seattle.
The ALR's primary goal has been to protect agricultural land from other forms of development, encourage farming, and work with other governments to fulfill those objectives. Matcon Landfill Management has made a long-term commitment to the reclamation of existing farm and non-farm use land that would otherwise be un-useable as a result of debilitating circumstances - such as excessive groundwater, watercourse habitat, poor soil conditions, and in some cases, poor fill and preload practices.
Matcon also works along side a team on environmental consultants in the development of environmental rehabilitation plans in order to bring properties back in to a condition which will support a range of crops, wildlife habitats and parks.
